From college drop-out to the founder of two multi-million-pound businesses, Robin is testament to what entrepreneurial flair, an innovative approach and good old fashioned hard graft can achieve.
Beginning his working life as an apprentice draftsman for a construction business, Robin soon realised he wasn’t cut out to spend his days drawing houses, so turned to his passion for travel to find job inspiration. Having found a sales job at a company who sold holidays via Teletext, Robin quickly learnt the ropes and, realising he could make more money working for himself, he and three other colleagues decided to form a breakaway travel agency.
After a successful first year and full of ambition, Robin decided to go it alone to set-up ski and cruise specialists, Fast Track Holidays, in 2001. The company was hugely successful and was bought by Virgin Holidays in 2007.
Having witnessed the growing popularity of cruising, Robin launched Imagine Cruising in 2011, selling bespoke cruise holidays, many of which feature unique and exclusive events and immersive touring experiences. The success of Imagine Cruising attracted the attention of The Emirates Group, who acquired a majority stake in 2015. Imagine Cruising now operates in the UK, South Africa, Dubai, Australia, New Zealand and Germany.
To date, Imagine Cruising has a turnover of almost £200 million.
Robin says: “With so many opportunities to grow now being available, the question is no longer ‘Can we find more opportunities?’ but rather ‘Which ones shall we embrace?’”
